Gaia-X Hub Luxembourg

Enabling trusted data spaces and cloud services

We are Luxembourg’s central contact point for navigating the future of Europe’s digital economy. We connect local stakeholders with the Gaia-X ecosystem and the wider world of data spaces, fostering innovation through trust, sovereignty, and interoperability.

What is Gaia-X?

A European vision for data

Gaia-X is a European initiative to build a federated, open, and secure data infrastructure. It’s not another cloud platform, but a common set of rules, standards, and technologies that enable organisations to share and process data with trust and confidence.

The core goal is to create a transparent and sovereign digital ecosystem where users maintain control over their data, avoiding dependency on single providers (vendor lock-in). This framework allows different cloud services from various providers to connect and operate seamlessly, forming a unified and competitive European data market.

The principles and architecture of Gaia-X are defined by the Brussels-based non-profit, the Gaia-X ASBL. For a comprehensive overview of the European initiative, please refer to the official Gaia-X website.

Gaia-X Core Principles

Trust is the bridge between data and impact

The Gaia-X framework is built on a foundation of shared European values, ensuring a digital environment that is both innovative and trustworthy.

Openness & Transparency

Using open standards and ensuring transparent governance to foster fair competition and collaboration

Gaia X Transparency

Trust & Sovereignty

Empowering users with full control over their data, ensuring compliance with European regulations like GDPR and building trust through verifiable credentials

Interoperability & Portability

Guaranteeing that data and services can move freely and securely across different providers and platforms, creating a truly connected ecosystem

European Control

Creating a system where European rules and values are upheld, strengthening digital autonomy

The Gaia-X Hub Luxembourg

Your Gateway to Data Spaces and Cloud Services

The Gaia-X Hub Luxembourg is the official national contact point for the initiative. Managed by LNDS, closely supported by LuxInnovation, our mission is to act as a connector and catalyst. We coordinate efforts across the country, provide guidance to local stakeholders, and ensure Luxembourg’s voice is aligned with the broader European strategy.

Our primary roles are to:

  • Link local stakeholders to the international Gaia-X community and its resources.
  • Align Luxembourg’s strategic objectives in areas like HealthTech, Industry 4.0, and finance with European data space priorities.
  • Support organizations in understanding and adopting the principles of Gaia-X for their cloud services and data-driven projects.
  • Promote collaboration to build and participate in secure, interoperable data spaces.

Luxembourg’s Data Collaboration in action

Luxembourg is at the forefront of developing collaborative data ecosystems. While the nation has a strong portfolio of data-sharing initiatives like Entrust, Clinnova and MMUST+, these projects represent the wider national ambition for data collaboration.

The first national project actively pursuing Gaia-X compliance is the DataSpace for Health (DS4H). This flagship project aims to create a trusted environment for health data sharing, leveraging the Gaia-X framework to ensure security, sovereignty, and interoperability. DS4H serves as a real-world example of how these principles can be applied to drive innovation in a critical sector.

Building bridges across digital initiatives

While Gaia-X provides the foundational trust framework, our vision extends to the entire data space ecosystem. To deliver the best support, the Gaia-X Hub Luxembourg actively engages with other key European initiatives.

  • International Data Spaces Association (IDSA): As a member of IDSA, we leverage their standardized architecture for creating sovereign data spaces, which is fully complementary to Gaia-X principles.
  • Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC): We actively participate in the DSSC, a European Commission-funded initiative designed to coordinate and support the emergence of data spaces across all sectors.
  • Big Data Value Association (BDVA): We engage with BDVA, which drives the development of Europe’s data and AI innovation ecosystem, ensuring it grows in line with EU values and priorities.
  • MyData : We participate in the MyData initiative, which promotes human-centric data management and empowers individuals with greater control over their personal data.

This multifaceted approach allows us to provide comprehensive guidance, whether you are building a Gaia-X-compliant service or launching a broader data space initiative.

Who can benefit from our support?

If you are an organisation in Luxembourg interested in secure data sharing, sovereign cloud services, or innovative data spaces, the Hub is here to support you. We help any Luxembourg-based entity leverage next-generation data infrastructure.

  • Start-ups & Scale-ups: Access new markets and develop innovative, compliant services on a level playing field.
  • SMEs & Large Enterprises: Optimise processes, create new business models, and collaborate securely with partners without fear of vendor lock-in.
  • Government Bodies & Public Administration: Develop secure, transparent, and interoperable digital public services for citizens and businesses.
  • Research Institutions: Facilitate cross-border research collaboration with a trusted framework for sharing sensitive data.
