Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg

Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg

Luxembourg’s gateway to trusted, sovereign, interoperable data ecosystems

The Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg is the national contact point for digital data ecosystems topics. We support organisations in Luxembourg to navigate, build, and join Data Spaces — infrastructures that enable secure and controlled data sharing between participants, running on trusted sovereign cloud infrastructures, — guided by European principles and governance.

What is a data space?

Federated ecosystems for trusted data collaboration

A data space is an infrastructure that enables secure and controlled data sharing between participants, while allowing them to retain full control over their data. It is based on shared rules, standards, and governance frameworks that ensure trust, legal compliance, and interoperability across sectors.

What does it mean concretely ?

Data Spaces building blocks

Guiding principles for building trustworthy data spaces

Data Spaces are designed according to internationally recognised principles (DSSC v2.0, 2024), ensuring trust, interoperability, and value for all participants, including :

Governance frameworks that define rules and policies

Gaia X Transparency

Interoperability standards for data sharing

Security and identity services to protect data

Shared procedures and common models enabling collaboration

These elements ensure trust, transparency, and interoperability across participating organisations.

The Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg

Your Gateway to Data Spaces and Cloud Services

The Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg acts as a facilitator and connector in Luxembourg and Europe. Managed by LNDS, and supported by LuxInnovation, our mission is to help organisations understand and adopt Data Spaces, align national priorities with European initiatives, and promote cross-sector collaboration.

Our primary roles are to:

Luxembourg’s Data Collaboration in action

Luxembourg is at the forefront of developing collaborative data ecosystems. While the nation has a strong portfolio of data-sharing initiatives like Entrust, Clinnova and MMUST+, these projects represent the wider national ambition for data collaboration.

The first national project actively pursuing Gaia-X compliance is the DataSpace for Health (DS4H). This flagship project aims to create a trusted environment for health data sharing, leveraging the Gaia-X framework to ensure security, sovereignty, and interoperability. DS4H serves as a real-world example of how these principles can be applied to drive innovation in a critical sector.

Building bridges across digital initiatives

To provide relevant and future-proof support, the Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg actively engages with key European organisations that shape governance, standards, and best practices for Data Spaces across sectors.

Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL)

The Data Spaces Hub Luxembourg integrates and continues the activities of the former Gaia-X Hub, while working with Gaia-X AISBL as a strategic partner providing a federated trust framework that supports interoperability, transparency, and data sovereignty within data spaces.

International Data Spaces Association (IDSA)

As a member of IDSA, we leverage their standardised architecture for creating sovereign data spaces, which is fully complementary to Gaia-X principles.

Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC)

We actively participate in the DSSC, a European Commission-funded initiative designed to coordinate and support the emergence of data spaces across all sectors.

Big Data Value Association (BDVA)

We recently engage with BDVA, which drives the development of Europe’s data and AI innovation ecosystem, ensuring it grows in line with EU values and priorities.

MyData

We participate in the MyData initiative, which promotes human-centric data management and empowers individuals with greater control over their personal data.

This multifaceted approach allows us to provide comprehensive guidance, whether you are designing and operating a data space or ensuring alignment with Gaia-X and other European frameworks.

Who can benefit from our support?

If you are an organisation in Luxembourg interested in secure data sharing, sovereign cloud services, or innovative data spaces, the Hub is here to support you. We help any Luxembourg-based entity leverage next-generation data infrastructure.
